About us

DURST MALZ was founded in 1824 as a country brewery and malt house in Heidelsheim near Bruchsal and was converted into a commercial malt house after about 60 years.

After the Second World War, the then owners Karl Fritz and Reiner Hiby-Durst consistently expanded the family business. In 1985, Rheinische Malzfabriken Union in Gernsheim/Rhein was taken over and in 1992 the two companies merged.

In 2000, Westdeutsche Mälzerei GmbH in Castrop-Rauxel was also integrated into the company. Today, DURST MALZ is part of the internationally active Soufflet Group. At its three locations, the company produces approximately 200,000 tons of top-quality malt annually for worldwide distribution.
